LYRICS: PEACE OF HEART

PRAYER (GRIEG) Return to the CD page.
Infinite Love, I pray that You make
        a home in my heart.
Open the way for me to take,
        and help me to start.
I want to understand I’m in Your secret place,
        where all is good;
I want to see You face to face,
        in full gratitude.
Peace from within and food for the soul
        are blessings You give;
So let my song Your glory reveal –
        so let me live.

With new resolve I trust Your power
        to guide my action.
Day by day and hour by hour
        I grow in compassion.
Step by step Your wisdom unfolds
        the right decisions;
More and more to You I hold
        in every condition.
Govern my soul and enlighten my heart
        with confidence clear,
And I will work to do my part
        in humble prayer.
                ~Allyn Van Dusen

THE QUIET HEART (BECK) Return to the CD page.
The quiet heart knows the pace of kindness.
The quiet heart measures love in gentleness.
The quiet heart sees beauty in reality.
The quiet heart survives in understanding.
The quiet heart waits in yearning patience
To find the Mind of God.
                ~John Ness Beck

HOLY SPIRIT (BUTT) Return to the CD page.
Holy Spirit, Light divine,
Shine within this heart of mine.
Kindle every high desire,
Cleanse my thought in Thy pure fire.
Holy Spirit, Peace divine,
Still this restless heart of mine;
Speak to calm this tossing sea,
Stayed in Thy tranquility.
Holy Spirit, Peace divine,
Dwell within this heart of mine.
Bid my troubled thoughts be still;
With Thy peace my spirit fill.
                ~Andrew Reed & Samuel Longfellow

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD (ARCADELT) Return to the CD page.
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want;
He maketh me to lie down in pastures green.
He leadeth me by quiet waters; He restoreth my soul.  Yea, though I walk in darkness, I shall fear no evil,
For Thou art ever with me.
Thy rod and staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
In the presence of mine enemies.
Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
And I shall dwell forever in the house of the Lord.
                ~Psalm 23

FEED MY SHEEP (VAN DUSEN) Return to the CD page.
Shepherd show me how to go
O’er the hillside steep
How to gather, how to sow,
How to feed Thy sheep.
I will listen for Thy voice
Lest my footsteps stray.
I will follow and rejoice
All the rugged way.

Thou wilt bind the stubborn will,
Wound the callous breast.
Make self-righteousness be still,
Break earth’s stupid rest.
Strangers on a barren shore
Lab’ring long and lone,
We would enter by the door,
And Thou know’st Thine own.

So when day grows dark and cold,
Tear or triumph harms;
Lead Thy lambkins to the fold,
Take them in Thine arms.
Feed the hungry, heal the heart,
Till the morning’s beam.
White as wool e’er they depart,
Shepherd, wash them clean.
                ~Mary Baker Eddy

THE EARTH IS THE LORD’S (MCAFEE) Return to the CD page.
The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof,
The world and they dwell therein.
For he hath founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the floods.
Who shall ascend unto the hill of the Lord?
Who shall stand in his holy place?
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart;
Who hath not lifted up his soul into vanity,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive the blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
                ~Psalm 24

BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL (FAURE) Return to the CD page.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, bless the Lord.
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities;
Who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction;
Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies.
The Lord hath prepared His throne in the heavens,
And His kingdom ruleth over all.
                ~Psalm 103

MAN, THE CHILD OF GOD (WOLF) Return to the CD page.
Thou art holy, child of God.
Amidst a struggling earth, thou shinest
With reflected light,
Who from everlasting hast been one
With everlasting Love,
Thy heavenly Father.
As the bud, ever unfolding outward,
Thou unfoldest all thy Father’s glory.
None hath seen the beauty, nor ear heard
What the Father hath prepared for them that love Him;
All is revealed to us by His Spirit.
Love hath formed thee, child of God.
                ~M. B. Stearns

COMFORT (MENDELSSOHN) Return to the CD page.
Just like a Mother, God comforts all Her children,
Giving us strength and law by which to live.
We, by reflection, heal and bless each other;
Held in God’s Love, we have all love to give.
When skies are dark and we long for direction
Love lights our journey and offers sure protection.
As we listen we will hear,
and learn to let go of false fear.  Christ tells us:  “As God is Spirit, and as you are Her likeness,
That perfect image shines through all you are.
Open your heart – lift up your eyes;
Spirit is all, and Mind your guiding star.”

Through pure attention, our Master knew God’s presence;
He healed through Love to show the power of prayer.
As his disciples, we gain understanding
and recognize that God is everywhere.
Sweetly embraced in arms of Love divine,
Peace fills the heart and we glimpse the grand design.
Fear can have no lasting place;
All is for our growth in grace.
In trials and sorrows, God comforts all Her children;
Deepening our trust, we feel Love always near.
This is our strength – this is our peace:
Spirit is all, and Heaven is here.
                ~Allyn Van Dusen

WHITHER SHALL I GO FROM THY SPIRIT? (WINTON) Return to the CD page.
Whither shall I go from Thy spirit?
And whither shall I go from Thy presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, Thou art there:
If I make my bed in hell, behold Thou art there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there shall Thy hand lead me
And Thy right hand shall hold me.
For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life,
Nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers,
Nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature
Shall be able to separate us from the love of God.
                ~Psalm 139; Romans 8

IN THE NIGHT HIS SONG SHALL BE WITH ME (SWIFT) Return to the CD page.
In the night His song shall be with me,
In the day His lovingkindness.
My prayer is unto the God of my life,
The God of my life is He.
In sweet remembrance of all these things,
I pour out my soul in me.
I went with the multitude to the house of God;
In joy and praise, we cried unto Thee.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
And why art thou disquieted in me?
Hope thou in God, for I yet shall praise him
For the help of His countenance.
                ~Psalm 42

THE NEARNESS OF GOD (BITTMANN) Return to the CD page.
Now I rise at the dawn of day,
I thank God He is here to stay.
To guide and guard us with His love,
To help us always rise above
The harsh noises of earth’s day,
For He is not very far away;
He is close as the air we breathe.
When our mind’s open to receive,
When we ask for guidance from above,
He always, always answers with His love.
                ~Mary B. Price

THE EVERLASTING ARMS (BROONES) Return to the CD page.
When you walk with love,
Night will turn to day,
Love will hold you in her arms
And help you find the way.
Love will make you free,
Free from all alarms,
Love will give you eyes to see
The everlasting arms.
In times like these help me to know the way I should walk.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want;
God is my strength and my salvation,
Of whom shall I be afraid?
There is no fear in love; perfect love casts out fear.
I will have no other Gods before Thee,
I will love my neighbor as my own.
I will love the Lord my God with all my heart and soul,
For God is my refuge, and underneath
Are the everlasting arms.
When you walk with love,
God is everywhere,
Love has room to blossom
In the meadowlands of prayer;
So in times like these,
Filled with grave alarms,
Come into the refuge of
The everlasting arms.
                ~Paul Francis Webster

HOPE (COLLISTER) Return to the CD page.
‘Tis borne on the zephyr at eventide’s hour;
It falls on the heart like the dew on the flower,
An infinite essence from tropic to pole,
The promise, the home, and the heaven of Soul.

Hope happifies life, at the altar or bower,
And loosens the fetters of pride and of power;
It comes through our tears, as the soft summer rain,
To beautify, bless, and make joyful again.

The harp of the minstrel, the treasure of time,
A rainbow of rapture, o’erarching, divine,
The God-given mandate that speaks from above,
No place for earth’s idols, but hope thou, and love.
                ~Mary Baker Eddy

MY MASTER HATH A GARDEN (THIMAN) Return to the CD page.
My Master hath a garden
Full-filled with diverse flowers,
Where thou may’st gather posies gay
All times and hours.
Where nought is heard but paradise bird,
Harp, dulcimer and lute,
With cymbal and timbrel,
And the gentle sounding flute.

O Jesus, Lord, my heal and weal,
My bliss complete,
Make thou my heart thy garden plot,
True, fair and neat,
That I may hear this music clear,
Harp, dulcimer and lute,
With cymbal and timbrel,
And the gentle sounding flute.
                ~Anonymous

I’VE SEEN YOUR FACE (REGER) Return to the CD page.
I’ve seen your face in many pictures, dear Jesus,
Painted with love and skill;
But none of them ever could portray you
As I perceive you with my soul.
I do know that all worldly struggle
Has since vanished like a dream,
And an immeasurably sweet heaven
Is now and ever a part of me.
                ~Novalis, trans. Allyn Van Dusen

CHRIST MY REFUGE (DAVIS) Return to the CD page.
O’er waiting harpstrings of the mind
There sweeps a strain,
Low, sad and sweet, whose measures bind
The power of pain,

And wake a white-winged angel throng
Of thoughts illumed
By faith, and breathed in raptured song
With love perfumed.

Then His unveiled sweet mercies show
Life’s burdens light.
I kiss the cross and wake to know
A world more bright,

And o’er earth’s troubled, angry sea
I see Christ walk,
And come to me, and tenderly
Divinely talk.

Thus Truth engrounds me on the rock,
Upon Life’s shore,
‘Gainst which the winds and waves can shock,
O nevermore!

From tired joy and grief afar,
And nearer Thee,
Father, where Thine own children are,
I love to be.

My prayer, some daily good to do
To Thine, for Thee,
An offering pure of Love, whereto
God leadeth me.
                ~Mary Baker Eddy

FEAR NOT! (TINDALL) Return to the CD page.
Fear not, for I am with thee:
Be not dismayed, for I am thy God:
I will strengthen thee, yea, I will help thee,
I will uphold thee with My righteous right hand.
For thus saith the Lord,
Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep
And seek them out.
I will feed my flock, and cause them to lie down.
I will seek what was lost,
Bring again what was driven away;
I will bind up that which was broken,
And will strengthen that which was sick.
I will make with them a covenant of peace:
And they shall dwell safely in the wilderness,
And sleep in the woods.
And I will make them a blessing;
And the places round about my hill a blessing;
And I will cause the shower to come down in his season;
And there shall be showers of blessing. Fear not!
                ~Isaiah 41; Ezekiel 34

SANCTUARY (LOWE) Return to the CD page.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him will I trust.
He shall cover thee with His feathers,
And under his wings shalt thou trust.
His truth shall be thy shield and buckler,
Because thou hast made the Lord which is my refuge
Thy habitation, there shall no evil befall thee,
Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For He shall give His angels charge over thee,
To keep thee in all thy ways.
                ~Psalm 91
